Hello,

I'm creating this topic after my last message :

Hello,

I would like to say something about the problem of scale in LS 09.
I always wanted to create a topic here to talk about it, but this one could make a start. If you're a little curious you will want to check some little things in GIANTS original models. That's what I did. First thing to notice was the size compared to a model that Jdfan just create based on real measurement. They are way to big!
For example, open the .i3d file of the Fendt 936. As GIANTS Editor doesn't have a measurement tool, we will use a "transformGroup" and compare coordinate. Create one, place it at the base of the wheel, note the coordinates, place it at the top of the cab, note the coordinates. Compare the coordinates with real height of the Fendt 936. When I did that ( actually, I think Templaer was the first to notice that problem), I noticed the fendt 936 in Giants was 36 cm higher than the real one. That's a scale of 1.1 in Giants.

So, if every moder adjust their mod on the original models, they are all at scale 1.1. Each time a moder, like face, or jdfan, bring ingame a model at the EXACT size, it seems so small that anyone think it's wrong.
I plan to export an original model in Maya to check the size with accurate tool, but Templaer was okay with me on that. He even started to rescale the original model.

All that to say : I think the Kirovets is at the real size. Like a lot of other mods. ( Compare the JD 3200 to the Claas Scorpion. Measure the Claas Scorpion's height. Wink ). For LS 2011, I hope moders will have a closer look at all this and bring ingame REAL SIZED model.

I will certainly create a new topic about that in a while.
Regards,
Bayn

I just wrote to Giants to explain the situation. Here is my message :

[...]
Recently, I had some trouble with some mods coming from all over the community. Maybe if you have an eye on them you've noticed that aswell : they are all "over scaled" !
None of us are able to set a common size for objects and respect it all along the year. Some months ago, with the help of "Templaer" ( Dutch moder ) I realised the problem could come from the beginning.
Here is the explanation : I noticed that your Fendt936Vario original model was about 3.72meters height ( http://i38.servimg.com/u/f38/12/98/69/90/fendt910.png ). The problem is that the real size of that tractor is about 3.37 meters ( source : http://www.fendt.co.uk/pdf/10069700_FE_900_GB_Inter.pdf ). That's about 35 cm higher than in real.
So, some moders take your model as reference, some other use their own, some other use real measurement coming from technical documentation, etc... That's how you've got millions of versions of one single mod ( the creator release is own version, two days later a rescaled one is out, then an other one compared to an other reference, etc etc... ).

I know that, maybe, such problem are details for you when you have to manage a whole game. I'm not waiting for a total fix or something like that, but is it possible to get an official communication from you offering a real reference. Like a big "graduated ruler" which we could use ingame to check the scale of our mod, or a Fendt936 officially rescaled, ... ( I know I could do that myself, but it won't be considered as a reference if it comes from me ).
[...]

I just wanted to share all that with you, hoping it will help to get all the mods at the same and correct size/scale in the future.
I'll keep you up to date with their answer.

Best regards,
Bayn

This is a very nice hint to future mods, and a bit of a "tip" to giants, keep the mods in their real size. Gold medal for creating this Bayn.!

Maybe a metre stick or something would be a good thing to add into the game, as an object? Either that, or, it could be possible to put ruler guides into the next version of GE?

Hmm, I like the metre stick, just someone to make it, if it is 5 meter high, and has a marker every 5 cm or something Roll Eyes

ive noticed this as well, alot of mods seem out of perspective and when placed with others mods they just look silly, i think there should be a guideline of what the scale for mods should be so that any new mods that are released are of the same scale

I also think the Editor needs some sort of measurement tool implemented in it, like Glen said. That way models can be made more accurately and to more of a real life scale. It is, after all, a simulator.

Hmmm. I reckon some kind of ground plane would be good aswell, in GE. This would let you build everything, literally, from the ground up. If you were to use the metre stick or ruler guide, whatever, from that level, it would be much more convenient. The thing is, we can't make anything like that, accurately, as we still need to know the scale. We have nothing to compare it to just yet, unless anyone knows of a mod that is perfectly proportioned?

What about the altimeters in the aircraft that we have? I wonder if they are perfectly 'calibrated'? If so, there might be a way around this with that bit of script or something?

Hello guys,

Thanks a lot for your interest in that problem.
I received an answer from GIANTS Team :

Quote
Hello,

Many thanks for your feedback. We are glad you're liking the game, and we can assure you that we are working on extending and improving the game.

Best Regards,
GIANTS Software Support Team

As it wasn't really the answer I was waiting for, I contacted them again to get a more "detailled" answer. I don't want to be "boring" with this, but the problem seems important to me and need another kind of answer. ^^

Honestly, that almost sounds as if it's an automated reply message. Then again, they must be getting a whole boatload of messages on that email address each day.

I'm sure that GIANTS is keeping close taps on the community and knows how to recognize the most respected and knowledgeable people. You might get something later on. You never know. Smiley

That's exactly what I thought. Wink
That's why I'm still waiting for an other answer before contacting one of them privately.

I've created this kind of topic on our board, here and on the official GIANTS forum. I hope a lot of modder will be "touched" by this problem.
Do you know if this section of your forum is read a lot ?

i know you want a way of measuring in giants editer but seeing as the model will be done first in sketchup or something will it not be the right size before its converted

The ls-uk modteam has always had scale at the top of our priority. All our models have been scaled to match each other. I reckon the in game fendt 716 is on the small size and I agree that the 936 does seem either too tall or a bit narrow.

A measurement tool would be an excellent addition for ls2011

That is a brilliant idea! That way we could hope that all future mods are in the correct size compared to each orhter. And the ruler would also be usefull when making a map and resizing model of ex. a shed.

Hello,

you just need to set up your program correctly. If you're using the same units in Sketchup/AC3D/3ds max/... than in Maya, you won't have any scale problem.
Jdfan made the correct units adjustements and now we have no problem at all. The model appear at the right size in Maya ( I double check it with Maya measurements' tools ) so in GIANTS Editors aswell. Wink

rh, Random Hero, thanks for your support. Smiley

I forgot to point this out before, but for the record: you can put my name down for a signature on a petition for this as well. I may not be a modder, but I like my mods to scale. Smiley
